Analysis of the top quark mass at D0

The D0 collaboration has observed a small excess of events over the expected background in the t{bar t} to lepton + jets channel. Under the assumption that this excess is due to top production, the authors have performed a maximum likelihood fit for the top mass. The methods and results of this analysis are discussed.
