The Vertical Integration of Production Market Failure Considerations

Abstract Policy interest in vertical integration has been concerned mainly with the possibility that integration can be used strategically to achieve anti competitive effects. In the absence of a more substantial theoretical foundation, vertical integration, as a public policy matter, is typically regarded as having dubious if not outright antisocial properties. Technological interdependencies or, possibly, observational economies constitute the principal exceptions.
