FACTORS INFLUENCING THE MAXIMUM RATES OF AIR DRYING SHELLED CORN IN THIN LAYERS.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the temperature and relative humidity of the drying air, and the initial moisture content of a thin layer of shelled corn on its rate of drying. Thin layers of shelled corn about a half inch in thickness and with an initial moisture content of 22 and 35 per cent dry basis were dried with large volumes of constant temperature, constant humidity air. Tests were run using air at a temperature of 75 F and at relative humidities of 35, 50 and 70 per cent. In addition, tests at temperatures of 60 F and 90 Fat a relative humidity of 50 per cent were run.
