Summary Vitiligo is an acquired cutaneous disorder of the pigmentation characterized by the appearance of sharply circumscribed, cosmetically disturbing, white spots, in which some or all of the melanocytes in the epidermis are selectively destroyed. The etiology remains unknown, though it is believed that there should be an important influence of the immune system in its development.
