Variation of K?/K? x-ray intensity ratios in 3d elements

Abstract

The Kβ/Kα x-ray intensity ratios for compounds of 3d elements were calculated with the discrete-variational Xα (DV-Xα) molecular orbital method. It was found that the calculated results for V and Cr compounds are strongly correlated with the effective number of 3d electrons. The Kβ/Kα ratio is expressed as a linear function of the number of 3d electrons, but the slope of the straight line is different for different crystal symmetries. The Kβ/Kα ratio for Td symmetry is generally larger than that for Oh. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
