Abstract

Examination of the porhyrins from the viewpoint of the “annulene chemist” has led to the discovery of the novel, simple porphin isomer porphycene 2. The path from conception to the synthesis of the molecule was surprisingly short. 2 is formed as a stable compound upon McMurry reaction of 1.
