Runaway Stars and the Pulsars Near the Crab Nebula

The "runaway stars" formed when one member of a binary system explodes will be followed by the runaway remn ants of thee loded stars; thus many pulsars should be high-velocity ( 100 km sec-1) objects. Treating the pulsars 052 and 0531 as the remnants of a binary system which was originally in the association I Gem, we predict the proper motion and rate of period change for 0527. Proper-motion observations will enable a check to be made of the runaway-remnant hypothesis; observations of P. will check this hypothesis and provide a constraint on pulsar theories.
