Correction of X-Linked Lymphoproliferative Disease by Transplantation of Cord-Blood Stem Cells

X-linked lymphoproliferative disease is characterized by vulnerability to diseases induced by the Epstein-Barr virus, including life-threatening infectious mononucleosis, hypogammaglobulinemia, aplastic anemia, and B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It is uniformly fatal by the age of 40 years1. Bone marrow transplantation has the potential to correct this defect and has been performed with HLA-matched family members or unrelated persons as donors.
