The elastic scattering of negative pions on protons near 2 GeV/ <i>c</i>

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to give an interim report on a spark chamber experiment to determine the differential cross section of the reaction π- + p → π- + p at a number of pion momenta in the vicinity of the 2.07 GeV/c resonance as reported by Diddens et al. (1963). The experiment was performed on a pion beam produced from a target internal to the Nimrod vacuum vessel. The beam transport system was conventional, containing an intermediate and final image with an achromatic pair of momentum analysing magnets in the two halves of the beam line.
