Abstract

Prevalence and pattern of lymphatic spread as well as long-term prognosis differ markedly between early esophageal squamous cell and adenocarcinoma. Limited resection techniques and individualized lymphadenectomy strategies appear applicable in patients with early adenocarcinoma.
