Boiler models for system dynamic performance studies

The dynamic response of boiler pressure is a mass-volume-energy balance relationship which can be derived from changes in turbine valve position and boiler energy input. The response characteristics derived are compared with more simplified models which preserve the essential nonlinear process characteristics. It is shown that the dominant influence on the pressure response comes from the tuning of the pressure controls. Errors in modeling the steady-state response of the boiler itself are neutralized by the controls.
