Disenchantment with Reforms Among Different Status Groups

For a number of years, VTsIOM (the Russian Center for Public Opinion Research) has been asking its respondents the following question: "Do you think things in Russia are going in the right direction, or does it seem to you that events are taking us 'nowhere,' into a blind alley?" The pattern of responses for the period from August 1993 through May 1995 is shown in Figure 1.
