Measurement of the Charged-Particle Multiplicity in pp Collisions at 102<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mfrac><mml:mrow><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">GeV</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mi>c</mml:mi></mml:mrow></mml:mfrac></mml:math>

We present preliminary results from a sample of \ensuremath{\sim} 1200 events obtained from an exposure of the 30-in. Argonne National Laboratory---National Accelerator Laboratory liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber to 102-$\frac{\mathrm{GeV}}{c}$ protons. The elastic and total inelastic cross sections are respectively 6.9 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 1.0 and 32.8 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 1.1 mb. The parameters of the multiplicity distribution for negative tracks are $〈{n}_{\ensuremath{-}}〉=2.17\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.07$, $D_{\ensuremath{-}}^{}{}_{}{}^{2}=〈n_{\ensuremath{-}}^{}{}_{}{}^{2}〉\ensuremath{-}{〈{n}_{\ensuremath{-}}〉}^{2}=2.56\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.12$, and $f_{2}^{}{}_{}{}^{\ensuremath{-}}=D_{\ensuremath{-}}^{}{}_{}{}^{2}\ensuremath{-}〈{n}_{\ensuremath{-}}〉=0.39\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10$.
