Improved di-neutron cluster model for<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mmultiscripts><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">He</mml:mi><mml:mprescripts/><mml:none/><mml:mrow><mml:mn>6</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:mmultiscripts></mml:math>scattering

The structure of the three-body Borromean nucleus $^{6}\mathrm{He}$ is approximated by a two-body di-neutron cluster model. The binding energy of the $2n\text{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ system is determined to obtain a correct description of the $2n\text{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ coordinate, as given by a realistic three-body model calculation. The model is applied to describe the breakup effects in elastic scattering of $^{6}\mathrm{He}$ on several targets, for which experimental data exist. We show that an adequate description of the di-neutron-core degree of freedom permits a fairly accurate description of the elastic scattering of $^{6}\mathrm{He}$ on different targets.
