Hepatocyte dysfunction and hepatic encephalopathy in Plasmodium falciparum malaria

There is strong evidence of hepatocyte dysfunction and hepatic encephalopathy in some of these patients, with no obvious non-malarial explanation. Current guidelines may need to be revised.
