Calculation of the influence of an electric field on the free energy of formation of a nucleus

Abstract It is shown that, contrary to published formulae, the free energy of nucleus formation must be reduced in a field if the permittivity of the nucleus is greater than that of the matrix. A new calculation is given based on a dielectric mixtures formulae and the free energy function O, the latter being a minimum in equilibrium at constant field.
