Prevention of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism following orthopedic surgery

This is a literature review on prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Criteria for clinical trials are listed, diagnostic techniques are discussed, and nine approaches for preventing venous thromboembolism are outlined. Choices for primary prophylaxis in hip surgery and major knee surgery are presented.
