The Impact of Multi-Authored Papers: The Case of a Small Country

The new trend in the 21th century is a sharp increase in the number of papers whose author counts exceed a thousand and more. In the current paper we have studied how the hyper-authorship collaboration (more specifically CMS collaboration) affects the cooperation spectrum in small countries. We found that CMS collaboration strongly influences the co-authorship geography of small countries. It affects not only very small and less productive countries but also productive countries. This means that anticipating the trends of countries’ cooperation on the basis of co-authorship has become more complex. Therefore the countries which want to develop their RD&I strategies with different regions should be very careful in using co-authorship data without critical analysis.
