Lewisian basement occurs in central Ross-shire as a sheet-like body found at a high stratigraphic level within the Moinian (Sutton and Watson, 1962). We suggest that the Lewisian sheet is separated from the underlying rocks by a major tectonic discontinuity, or slide, which may be delineatedfor a distance of over 250 km. The age of this slide is discussed in relation to the regional structural and metamorphic history of the Moinian. This content is PDF only. Please click on the PDF icon to access.
