A Critique of Marxist Apologias of Freudianism

1. The reader who has been closely following this discussion of Freudianism will no doubt have already developed the feeling, all critical analysis aside, that this doctrine is profoundly, structurally foreign to Marxism. It is difficult not to sense the completely different atmosphere, the different perspective, of the Freudian world view. There are, nevertheless, some ardent Marxist apologists of Freudianism. I have had cause to mention them previously, in the early, introductory chapters of this work. Here, at the conclusion of the critical portion of this book, I cannot shirk the rather thankless task of subjecting these Marxist apologias of Freudianism to an analytical critique.
