Study of<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mi>γ</mml:mi><mml:mi>p</mml:mi><mml:mo>→</mml:mo><mml:mi>ρ</mml:mi><mml:mi>ω</mml:mi></mml:math>with Linearly Polarized Photons at 2.8 and 4.7 GeV

The reaction $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\omega}$ was studied in a hydrogen bubble chamber using a linearly polarized photon beam. The total cross section was found to be 5.8 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.5 \ensuremath{\mu}b at 2.8 GeV and 3.2 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.3 \ensuremath{\mu}b at 4.7 GeV. From the decay angular distributions these cross sections have been separated into contributions from natural- and unnatural-parity exchange ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{N}}$, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{U}}$ in the $t$ channel. For $|t|&lt;1$ Ge${\mathrm{V}}^{2}$ ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{N}}=2.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.4$ \ensuremath{\mu}b, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{U}}=2.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.4$ \ensuremath{\mu}b at 2.8 GeV and ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{N}}=1.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3$ \ensuremath{\mu}b, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{U}}=1.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3$ \ensuremath{\mu}b at 4.7 GeV. The contributions from unnatural-parity exchange are consistent with the predictions of the one-pion-exchange model.
