Transient Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Gear Line Contacts

A rolling mill drive, experiences excessive dynamic loads resulting from the torsional vibration of mass inertias and shafts with significant backlashes of gearing and couplings on the drive. In the first part of the paper, the dynamic loads are determined from the simulation of the drive with 26 mass inertias using fourth order Runge Kutta method. The second part of the paper deals with the influence of such dynamic loads on the film thickness in the case of gear line contacts.
