Abstract

Extractive ammonia pretreatment converts crystalline cellulose I<sub>β</sub> to a highly digestible cellulose III<sub>I</sub> and selectively extracts up to ∼45% of the lignin from lignocellulosic biomass with near-quantitative retention of all polysaccharides.
