RESPONSE OF PHYTOPLANKTON TO NUTRIENT ADDITION IN JIAOZHOU BAY

Preliminary in situ experiments were conducted in August?November, 1998 and February, 1999 in Jiaozhou Bay to investigate phytoplankton time course responses to nutrient addition. Size fractionated chlorophyll a results showed that netphytoplankton(net ,20～200 μmol/L) had most significant response to N+P addition; Nanophytoplantkon(nano , 2～20 μm) has significant response to N+P or Fe addition in August,1998, but no nutrient limited nano growth in November,1998 and Februray,1999; Picophytoplankton showed a significant positive response to N+P addition in August,1998 and Februray,1999.
