Hypercholesterolemia in the aviator.

Cholesterol is becoming increasingly implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). We reviewed lipid physiology, National Institute of Health recommendations, current USAF policies, and the lipid profiles of four active duty flying squadrons. A significant number of fliers are in a high or extremely high risk category for the development of CAD based on NIH criteria.
