Consanguineous Marriage and Genetics: A Positive Relationship

This volume, and the conference from which it has arisen, both demonstrate and reflect the need for cross-disciplinary research and practice in health care generally, and genetics in particular. The traditionally imposed perspectives of social scientists and health professionals do not encourage the mutual recognition of the other's relevance. Two necessary criteria for successful cross-disciplinary research initiatives are i) the involvement from the very beginning of all relevant disciplines in the development of any collaboration, so that the research agenda takes into account all necessary perspectives, and ii) adequate funding to permit the exploration of emerging concepts and situations.
