An integral equation technique for the propagation of a vertical hydraulic fracture in a poroelastic formation

This paper reports the progress in the development of a two-dimensional hydraulic fracturing model based on the Biot theory of poroelasticity. The first part of the paper describes an integral formulation for the pressure distribution in the fracture in terms of fracture opening and fluid loss into the formation. Using this formulation, a numerical algorithm is presented for the problem of a nonpropagating fracture with a given injection rate at the well. The paper concludes with some results on pore pressure distributions ahead of an opening edge dislocation moving at a constant speed.
