Design of a novel consequent-pole interior PM motor for applying to refrigerant compressor

In this study, a novel, cost-effective consequent-pole interior permanent-magnet motor is designed to be applied in inverter-based air-conditioner refrigerant compressor. As the proposed motor has lesser magnetic usage, its performance variations based on four geometric parameters were studied. Moreover, a multi-target fuzzy-inference Taguchi method is employed to determine the best parameters combination required in order to achieve the quality goals of lower cogging torque and higher efficiency. Experimental results have shown that this proposed cost-effective motor can exhibit excellent performance characteristics and has the potential to become a driving motor of refrigerant compressors.
