TUNGSTEN SPLASHING UNDER INTENSE PLASMA FLOW

This paper concerns the experimental investigation of tungsten macroscopic erosion under plasma heat loads in the range of 0.4-2.2 MJ/m 2 and pulse duration of 0.5 ms. Onset condition of tungsten droplet production was defined. Characteristics of the ejected droplets (velocity, flight angle, size, point of time formation) have been studied as a function of the heat load both at the normal and inclined plasma impact. The droplet ejection starts at the plasma load above the melting point but below the boiling point.
