Teaching economics of electricity markets using a web-based model market game

We describe a simulated electricity wholesale market game developed by the authors, that allows students to learn about market economics by controlling their own fleet of power plants.A custom software web application called EMM-app (Electricity Market Model Application) for running the simulated market has been developed, which allows students to play the market model through a web browser.Data is presented from actual class usage of the EMM-app system, which provides evidence of changing student bid behaviour consistent with learning over the course of the term.
