Characterizing OMNI-Directional Antenna by Complex Normalized Effective Height Based on Broadband Calculable Antennas

The complex normalized effective height (CNEH) is used to characterize omni-directional antennas based on a novel method. There is no phase information for the traditional parameters such as effective length and antenna gain. In contrast CNEH is a “versatile'” parameter for many applications. A pair of super broadband precise calculable dipole antennas (CDAs) and calculable biconical antennas are used to experimentally verify this. The difference of CNEH between measurements and simulations is less than 0.37 dB and 4 degree from 10 MHz to 1.5GHz. Better results can be achieved with more dipoles.
