Mechanical behavior of fault materials subjected to static and cyclic loading

There are many sites in Japan where fault zones exist in hard rock masses. In such cases, the mechanical behaviour of fault material must be sufficiently understood to estimate the stability of bedrock during an earthquake. In particular, the estimation of the residual strain produced during and after an earthquake is an important factor in connection with the stability of ground subjected to cyclic loading.
