Resistance parameters of rocklike materials against abrasive water jet cutting

The paper contains investigations on the behaviour of five artificial rocklike materials subjected to abrasive water jet cutting in a wide range of cutting parameters. In detail, the influence of the compressive strength, the Young’s modulus, the absorbed fracture energy, the crack velocity, and the density of the materials on the cutting process is investigated. Based on statistical calculations it is found that the crack velocities of the materials have the strongest relation to the cutting process. The crack velocity of the material influences the depth of the cut, the specific energy, and the threshold pressure of the cutting process.
