Evaluation of Valve Performance for Film-type Bioprosthetic Valve (Butterfly Bio-valve) by in Body Tissue Architecture

Recently, number of veterinary disease for mitral valve insufficiency in is increasing. Because there are not adequate artificial mitral valves yet, mitral reconstructive surgery is performed. Therefore, there is a tremendous need for small size artificial atrioventricular valves. We have been developing “Bio-valve” fabricated by IBTA. This study was developed membrane-type biological valves such as Jellyfish type and Butterfly type were prepared by sewing membrane-like connective tissue with metal made valve ring. The valve function and its opening-closing behavior was evaluated by using in-vitro simulator. As a result, Butterfly type model with a Bio-sheet as leaflet showed good valve closing performance. But the effective orifice area as valve opening performance was not achieved to the ISO requirement.
