Compton scattering from <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mmultiscripts><mml:mi>He</mml:mi><mml:mprescripts/><mml:none/><mml:mn>4</mml:mn></mml:mmultiscripts></mml:mrow></mml:math> at the TUNL <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>HI</mml:mi><mml:mi>γ</mml:mi><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">S</mml:mi></mml:mrow></mml:math> facility

Differential cross sections for elastic Compton scattering from $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ have been measured with high statistical precision at the High Intensity $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray Source at laboratory scattering angles of ${55}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$, ${90}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$, and ${125}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ using a quasi-monoenergetic photon beam with a weighted mean energy value of 81.3 MeV. The results are compared to previous measurements and similar fore-aft asymmetry in the angular distribution of the differential cross sections is observed. This experimental work is expected to strongly motivate the development of effective-field-theory calculations of Compton scattering from $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ to fully interpret the data.
