Ultrafast modification of the electronic structure of a correlated insulator

A strong nonresonant pumping may modify the microscopic interaction parameters in a prototypical correlated insulator NiO. Findings show that the effective hopping parameter $t$ is malleable, whereas the effective local Coulomb repulsion $U$ is inert.
