Overview of Diagnostic Methods for Rotating Electrical Machines

Rotating electrical machines (generators and motors) are the basic elements of modern electrical power systems. Their control, maintenance and diagnostics are an urgent task. The article provides a classification and review of diagnostic methods for machines. The main attention is paid to the choice of input signals, mathematical methods for extracting useful information and diagnostics of electric drives in static and transient modes.
