CrossFlux: a method for hybridizing Xpatch and other codes

In electromagnetics, there is a class of problems that have two distinct parts. An example is computing scattering from a car next to a tower. The tower part is suitable for a high-frequency solver such as Xpatch. The car, with its small features and material, is best handled by a full-wave solver. The question is how to hybridize two isolated solutions with interactions. In this paper, we demonstrate a method for doing this type of hybridization. Our method is based on a formulation We have implemented the CrossFlux in the following three codes: (i) Xpatch from DEMACO, a high frequency shooting and bouncing ray code for scattering; (ii) SAF from DEMACO, a MoM code for PEC and bulk material with acceleration by the multilevel fast multipole algorithm; and (iii) PowerCavity from the University of Illinois, a FEM code specialized for solving cavity problems
