The Chairman opened the business of the Meeting by referring to the By-laws under which it was held, and stated the anticipation oi' the Council that the General Meetings for the transaction of Scientific Business, of which the present was the first, would be productive of great advantage t o science.H e adverted to the known abilities and industry of many of the Members of the Society, who have contributed to the Proceedings of the Committee of Science and Correspondence, [the meetings of which have now ceased,) and dwelt on the certainty of much important infotmdtion being communicated by their continued labonrs.There were also other Members equally in possession of facts of interest, and equally capable of imparting the knowledge of them, to whom the Society might Iobk with confidence for contributions.He trusted that these
