Blood pressure lowering efficacy of drugs inhibiting the renin-angiotensin system as second-line therapy for primary hypertension

Objectives This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows: Primary objective To quantify the additional reduction in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) achieved by drugs inhibiting the renin‐angiotensin system (RAS) as second‐line treatment for hypertensive patients. Secondary objectives To determine the effects of second‐line RAS inhibitors on variability of blood pressure To determine the effects of second‐line RAS inhibitors on pulse pressure To quantify the effects of second‐line RAS inhibitors on heart rate To quantify the effects of second‐line RAS inhibitors on withdrawal due to adverse effects
