Probabilistic Risk Estimation of sUAS Collisions with non-participating people

View Video Presentation: https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2023-0736.vid Modeling and Simulation of small Unmanned Air System vehicle dynamics post-failure was previously developed by researchers to understand the vehicle ground impact characteristics and analyze the injury potential of unmanned vehicles to non-participating people near the operating environment. This paper describes the effort to advance the previous modeling to estimate the impact location of an unmanned vehicle post mid-air failure and develop population density models that represent the non-participating public within an operating environment. Finally, probability density maps are separately developed for Unmanned Vehicle ground impact locations and the Human Population locations at the operating environment and combined to produce Unmanned Vehicle – Human Collision Probability Density Maps. These collision probability density maps can provide great insight into the operational risk of an unmanned vehicle and help with safer integration of Unmanned Vehicles in National Airspace.
