View Video Presentation: https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2023-0643.vid Development has been undertaken to adapt the DOD HPCMP CREATE-AV Kestrel platform to allow for simulation of multi-fluid, incompressible, free-surface (air/water interface) flows in a new prototype solver. This newly developed method utilizes the Pressure Implicit Splitting Operator (PISO) algorithm, which is distinct from Kestrel’s current artificial compressibility-based solver for single fluid, incompressible flows. The PISO algorithm allows for robust simulation of free-surface hydrodynamic physics in the presence of a 1000:1 density ratio between water and air. The method is validated for a number of common numerical benchmark cases and simple calm water surface-piercing ship flows.
