Coverage in Cellular Networks with Cross-tier Interference Coordination for Mobile Users

To alleviate the time overhead caused by mobility, a velocity-based association policy has been adopted in heterogeneous cellular networks for mobile users. However, this policy may introduce strong interference from cross-tier interfering base stations which are closer to the users than the serving BS. To mitigate cross-tier interference, we propose two cross-tier interference coordination (CTIC) schemes for mobile users: one jointly considers the transmit power and path loss, and the other further incorporates the antenna gain. We give the analytical expressions of overall coverage probability of mobile users. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed CTIC schemes provide a higher overall coverage probability than no CTIC case in the low signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio regime, and the performance gap between the two schemes becomes smaller as the coordination level parameter goes up.
