Detection of weather induced events on the overhead power lines

A reliable operation of the electrical infrastructure is of paramount importance for both utilities and electricity consumers. Especially the outdoor exposed components of the electrical grid must endure severe weather conditions that stress the materials and put at risk the reliability of the grid infrastructure. The presented device and method aim to identify the weather conditions that impact outdoor electrical lines like strong winds, galloping, icing and provide situational awareness that lead to potential power outages or dangerous situations as fallen conductor, vegetation encroachment, pole slanting, broken suspension elements, large conductor swings and sag clearance violations.
