A search for decays of the Higgs boson to invisible particles in events with a top-antitop quark pair or a vector boson in proton-proton collisions at $$\sqrt{s} = 13\,\text {Te}\hspace{-.08em}\text {V} $$

A search for decays to invisible particles of Higgs bosons produced in association with a top-antitop quark pair or a vector boson, which both decay to a fully hadronic final state, has been performed using proton-proton collision data collected at <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:msqrt><mml:mi>s</mml:mi></mml:msqrt><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:mn>13</mml:mn><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:mtext>Te</mml:mtext><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:mtext>V</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math> by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:msup><mml:mtext>fb</mml:mtext><mml:mrow><mml:mo>-</mml:mo><mml:mn>1</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:msup></mml:mrow></mml:math>. The 95% confidence level upper limit set on the branching fraction of the 125<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:mtext>Ge</mml:mtext><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:mtext>V</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math> Higgs boson to invisible particles, <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mo>(</mml:mo><mml:mtext>H</mml:mtext><mml:mo>→</mml:mo><mml:mtext>inv</mml:mtext><mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:math>, is 0.54 (0.39 expected), assuming standard model production cross sections. The results of this analysis are combined with previous <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mo>(</mml:mo><mml:mtext>H</mml:mtext><mml:mo>→</mml:mo><mml:mtext>inv</mml:mtext><mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:math> searches carried out at <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:msqrt><mml:mi>s</mml:mi></mml:msqrt><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:mn>7</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:math>, 8, and 13<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:mtext>Te</mml:mtext><mml:mspace></mml:mspace><mml:mtext>V</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math> in complementary production modes. The combined upper limit at 95% confidence level on <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mo>(</mml:mo><mml:mtext>H</mml:mtext><mml:mo>→</mml:mo><mml:mtext>inv</mml:mtext><mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:math> is 0.15 (0.08 expected).
