Corrosion behavior of pure magnesium on different crystallographic structure

Magnesium would be expected to be applied to bioabsorbable stents as a metallic material because of its excellent biocompatibility and degradability. However, the low corrosion resistance of magnesium makes its fast corrosion rate a problem in biological environments. In this study, the effects of crystal structure on corrosion rate of pure magnesium materials were investigated by corrosion immersion tests and microstructure observation.
