Abstract 1462 Role of IL-17R Signaling in the Stomach Epithelium During H. pylori Infection

Objective and Hypothesis: Heliobacter pylori is a pathogen that colonizes the stomach and drives gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer. The T cell cytokine, Interleukin-17 (IL-17), plays an important role in the inflammatory response during H. pylori colonization of the gastric mucosa. This cytokine mediates protective innate immunity against pathogens by mobilizing neutrophils. The IL-17 receptor is expressed on epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and hematopoietic cells. Previous work suggests that a deficiency in IL-17R leads to increased chronic inflammation compared to control mice.
