Breastfeeding and lipid profile and cardiovascular risk markers in women with familial hypercholesterolemia: The FH-FEMINA study protocol

In female patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), treatment periods are interrupted due to contraindications of lipid-lowering medication from planning of pregnancy until end of breastfeeding. Women with FH accumulate a higher cholesterol burden than men, both at age 19 and 30 years. Little is known about how breastfeeding affects lipid profile and other markers for CVD risk in women with FH and to what extent statins transfer to breast milk.
