Museet – en fristad för tvärvetenskaplig forskning eller lågprisakademi?

Most scholars within the humanities not employed at a university or university college, are engaged as researchers at museums, archives or libraries. Due to their wide-ranging collections of empirical data and the persistent lack of truly interdisciplinary departments at Swedish universities, these institutions have great potential to serve as locations for innovative cultural research. However, although it is generally agreed that there can be no significant difference in quality between research at universities and research at other institutions, research units at museums, archives and libraries currently lack equivalent resources for critical assessment as well as access to full text data bases. In order to live on as research units and to comply with the standards of university based research, the institutions need to seek collaboration with universities and university libraries.
