List of the larval survey and fauna of mosquitoes in Japanese archipelago

This paper reports the records of mosquitoes in the Japanese archipelago collected by Kiyoshi Kamimura between 1961 and 2000. The Japanese mosquito fauna is formed the northern species and the oriental species. The most abundant species in Japan are considered to be the Anopheles sinensis species group, Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Culex orientalis. These are species that reproduce in large bodies of water such as rice paddy swamps. The An. sinensis species group, Culex pipiens complex, Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Aedes albopictus, which transmit malaria parasites, filaria parasites, Japanese encephalitis virus, West Nile virus, dengue virus, yellow fever virus and pathogens of other diseases, are found to be widely distributed throughout Japan, and it is considered necessary to strengthen the quarantine system in the future.
